Increased Number of People over 40 Addicted to Drugs and Alcohol

Recent study by UK-based Drug-Scope has revealed some interesting drug facts.

According to the results, there is a rapid increase in the number of people over 40 using heroin, marijuana and binge drinking.

Also the population of cannabis users over the age of 50 has increased dramatically. If you think of drug and alcohol, you would associate them with students and teenagers, but people over-40s and -50s are apparently begging to use these substances more and more. Their number has increased tenfold since 1990s.

Other findings of the report are that more and more heroin users over 40 are looking for medical help to cope with their addiction. In the same time, the number of people under 30 addicted to hard drugs is steadily decreasing.

According to researchers, the results of the report speak for themselves: as people are getting older and start experiencing loneliness and isolation, they are looking for a treatment for their mental problems.

Experts believe the increasing number of older drug and alcohol addicts is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. People with problems like this should receive proper professional support on a local and national level.
